ÖAW AI Summer School 2019

Wolfgang Waltenberger Patrick Hüther, GMI

5.-9.Aug, Hotel Der Klugbauer, Fallegg 28, 8563 Ligist, Austria

The Austrian Academy of Sciences will organize a graduate summer school on artificial intelligence. Application is open for active researchers in any of the Academy's institutes who (intend to) apply machine learning to their problems -- and do not specialize in artificial intelligence. The school targets PhD students and young PostDocs from any field, although colleagues at any career stage are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have basic programming skills in python. Knowledge of linear algebra is advantageous. While theoretical backgrounds and AI concepts will be introduced in the lecture series, the school puts particular emphasis on hands-on programming exercises. The topics covered will include a basic introduction, a lecture in non-network-based machine learning techniques, deep learning, and Bayes statistics. It is our declared intention to organize another, similar, school next year with a more challenging syllabus. Potential applicants who wish to be introduced to more advanced concepts and the theoretical backgrounds behind the techniques are kindly asked to wait for next year. The school's fee is 485 Euros and includes full board and lodging. Please ask your institute or funding agency if they are willing to cover your fee. Confirmed lecturers: Helga Wagner (JKU) Johannes Brandstetter (AI Lab Linz) Peter Filzmoser (TU Wien)
