At the Frontier of the Technologically Feasible
Elementary particle physics not only goes for the limit of human knowledge and imagination but also for the limit of what is technologically feasible - and pushes this limit farther and farther.
On the one hand, it requires particle accelerators, the biggest machines in the world. On the other hand, the detection and accurate study of elementary particles would not be possible without highly sensitive particle detectors. Last but not least, all the recorded data have to be processed and analyzed, and for this purpose, the successor of the WWW, the Grid, had to be developed.
Our institute has contributed to all these aspects in various wasy. The most important contributions are presented in the section "proprietory developments at our institute".
