The "Compact Muon Solenoid" is one of the two general-purpose experiments operating at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Since spring 2010 it observes proton-proton collisions. In 2012 the CMS Collaboration announced the observation of a Higgs particle. Around 3200 people from 200 scientific institutions work on CMS.
