I am a particle physicist member of the Compact Muon Solenoid Experiment, CMS, at CERN. My research interest focuses on searches for new physics, as well as measurements of rare Standard Model processes (SM), exploiting the potential overlap between the two.
During my PhD thesis at CIEMAT I studied properties of SM processes that involve W and Z bosons in association with jets. Particularly I measured the differential cross section of a Z boson plus b- and c-jets produced in the hadronization of charm or bottom quarks. These processes are common backgrounds in searches for new physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM), as well as reference benchmark measurements to test the level of precision of the latest quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and parton distribution functions (PDF) calculations. I am also interested in machine-learning algorithms and its applications for LHC physics phenomenology. As an example of this, I worked on flavor tagging algorithms that are used to classify the flavor of a jet in terms of the hadron that originated it.
After the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, all the particles in the SM have been discovered experimentally. The large 13 TeV dataset that the LHC is expected to deliver in the coming years is an ideal place to search for BSM particles and deviations with respect to SM predictions with a unique level of precision in the history of particle physics. I search for new particles with a model independent approach in various final states ranging from classical prompt resonances to exotic displaced topologies. As an example, I worked on searches for prompt dilepton resonances arising from new W'/Z' gauge bosons and currently I am interested in developing new search strategies to discover a light, neutral and long-lived dark photon, Zd.
If you are motivated Bachelor, Master or PhD candidate and you are interested in working on searches for physics beyond Standard Model at the LHC, do not hesitate to contact me for further information!
We are all born curious and imaginative. I enjoy transmitting my passion about science and the importance of fundamental research to young students in all type of situations. I talked about about science at the classroom, museums or even during Halloween in a bar... Some examples:
