Research interests

My main research focus is the search of new particles and forces that can be produced in electron-positron annihilation at the Belle II Experiment located in Tsukuba, Japan.
Dark matter according to latest cosmological measurements represents a very big fraction in terms of the mass of the known Universe (26%) when compared to ordinary matter (5%). That is equivalent to say that  ~85% of the mass of the Universe is dark. However the only information we have about dark matter comes from gravitational measurements; while it interacts gravitationally with ordinary matter, other interactions have yet to be observed. It becomes then mandatory to fully exploit the potential of new high intensity experimental facilities in the search of signals that can originate from the interaction of dark matter with ordinary matter. In fact since this interaction has to be very weak (or would have otherwise been observed), large amounts of data are required. According to several theories, that are referred to as dark sectors, dark matter might comprise a new sector of particles of forces, with couplings and masses that might be in reach of the Belle II experiments, thanks also to the exceptionally large amount data expected to be collected by the experiment in the coming years.
Currently I am involved in the following activities:

-search for low mass dark matter in invisible decays of the Y(1S),
-search for a dark Z’ boson decaying to visible/invisible final states,
-search for flavour violating mediators decaying to visible/invisible final states.

Another aspect of my research is the involvement in the Belle II statistics advisory committee of which I am (co-)chair; the committes offers guidance and documentation (including training/tutorials) to promote sound usage of statistical tools and procedures within the Collaboration.

My evolving research team is continuously looking for new members at various level, if you are interested in joining our effort in the search for dark matter and dark forces at the Belle II Experiment write me an email.
